Ymir sits at the base of Mt. Dundee which experiences consistently good thermic and ridge soaring conditions throughout the spring, summer and fall. Wide and gentle launch areas coupled with spacious landing zones make this an ideal flying site for pilots of all levels.
The Day-Taster takes intrepid beginners a little farther combining a tandem flight with some solo
"ground-handling" or "kiting" one of our training aircraft.
Kiting is not only fun, but allows the student to feel and manipulate the wing's power under controlled circumstances.
Our Novice Certification Course will initiate those with no experience and transform them into certified paraglider pilots. Once certified, pilots will be able to fly solo at most sites around the world.
This course involves both theoretical and practical training designed to make you a safe and competent pilot.
Novice Course topics will include:
- Understanding the proper care and use of your equipment
- Learning to properly judge appropriate weather conditions
- Choosinng appropriate flying sites, and
- Becoming familiar with air dynamics.
The completion of the Novice Course requires the student to successfully demonsrate control of the paraglider in the air and on land, complete thirty solo high flights, and pass a theory exam.
We Offer Soaring Clinics for experienced pilots who would like to hone their thermalling and ridge soaring techniques.
Kootenay Paragliding also offers Refresher Courses for those pilots wanting to sharpen their skills after a hiatus from the sport - a season opening tune-up is always a good idea.
Guiding and Logistics can be provided for individuals or groups of pilots wanting to discover new flying sites in the Kootenays and learn some of our XC routes.
